Concern about climate change and its consequences has become an important talking point in recent years.  With daily reminders about the impact climate change has had on our planet, we will examine some of the global issues we face as well as taking a closer look at the effects that dentistry has on our environment and how as a profession we can make positive change.

Timed to coincide with the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) Conference taking place in Glasgow, we will welcome our members to give us their take on the challenges we face.

Aims

To provide an overview of the challenges that face dentistry in relation to climate change and to consider some changes that we can make as clinicians to reduce this impact.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Have an understanding of the overall concept of what climate change is
  • Recognise the impact dentistry has had on climate change and the environment
  • Be able to illustrate some examples of good practice to reduce this impact
  • Discuss some of the actions that the dental profession can take to mitigate this impact
