This year’s symposium discusses Osteonecrosis of the Jaws and will focus on both medication-induced and radiation-induced osteonecrosis through two dedicated sessions.
Overview
The Glasgow Oral Surgery Symposium returns to the Royal College for its fifth year. This year’s hybrid symposium will focus on ‘Osteonecrosis of the Jaws’ and will highlight both medication- induced and radiation-induced osteonecrosis through two dedicated sessions.
Additionally, a radiology lecture will provide insights into both conditions from a radiological perspective.
The conference will be led by Mr Kandy Ganesan Consultant Oral Surgeon alongside dental specialist speakers, who will present lectures aimed at enhancing the understanding of these conditions in terms of prevention, early diagnosis and management.
Sessions will include:
- Definition and classification of Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) and associated medications aside from Bisphosphonates.
- Imaging of MRONJ and Osteoradionecrosis (ORN).
- Does exposure to antiresorptive medications changes the quality of mucosa and or alveolar bone.
- Infection is risk factor in progression.
- Need for antibiotics.
- The use of Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP).
- Evidence of risk factors for developing MRONJ, and how to extract teeth when patients on bisphosphonates, role of minimally invasive surgery in preventing progression of the disease.
- Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) vs conventional radiotherapy.
- HBO and RAPTOR: Randomised controlled trial of Potentiation by Clodronate (PENTOCLO) in mandibular osteoradionecrosis.
- Role of surgery in the management of ORN and repair of the defects.
To consolidate your learning, we record all sessions and make them available to all registered delegates for up to a month after the conference.
