Lowe's Chirurgerie- "In goodwill and love"
Join us as we look at the life of our founder, Peter Lowe, and his ground-breaking publication of The Whole Course of Chirurgerie (1597)
Join us as we look at the life of our founder, Peter Lowe, and his ground-breaking publication of The Whole Course of Chirurgerie (1597). This was the first comprehensive medical textbook to be published in English rather than Latin. In particular, we will look at the non-medical, cultural influences and context of the words of Peter Lowe, in the book’s fascinating preliminary addresses, poems and dedications. For example, Lowe draws inspiration from the words of Roman philosopher Cicero, whose writings were so influential in humanism and the Renaissance. Using visualisation equipment, the event will examine our first edition of this rare book up-close like never before.
The event is free to attend but places are limited so please book in advance. We’ll send you details of how to join in with the conversation nearer to the time. The event will be hosted via Microsoft Teams and will start at 6pm.
There are no seats available on the event, if you apply now, you will be added to the waiting list and payment (if applicable) would have to made when your attendance has been confirmed.
