Overview
The Mentorship Programme is an established three-part mentor training course open to all interested in taking on a mentoring role in their workplace, or who already have mentoring responsibilities and would like to improve their practice. This in-person course will broaden your own mentoring skill-set and diversify your network of colleagues.
The course is suitable for Doctors, Surgeons, Dentists, Podiatrists, Travel Health Specialists, Nurses and Academics. The training concentrates on the skills needed to be a successful mentor and is based upon the ‘Egan Model’, a framework proven to be of benefit in mentoring relationships.
Over the course of a number of workshops and group sessions, participants present their own issues and opportunities; practicing the skills necessary to apply this framework effectively.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to successfully initiate, maintain and 'end' a mentee relationship
- Be aware of the ethical and professional issues involved in mentoring
- Describe the three stages of the ‘Egan model’ and give examples of how it can be used
- Define mentoring and explain its benefits to professional, personal and organisational practice
The Mentorship Programme runs over three dates and is held at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, which is located in Glasgow’s City Centre. The three dates are fully catered and are noted below:
- Wednesday 27 March
- Tuesday 23 April
- Tuesday 14 May
Member benefit:
Completion of this course enables all members to access My Mentoring, a community online platform exclusively for College members. It enables you to connect and build relationships and networks with other like-minded members to share professional knowledge, skills and experience in a safe and secure way.
Mentoring improves professional development and career opportunities, helping our clinicians to develop their strengths, identify areas for improvement, while supporting others to explore their careers and overcome challenges.
