The Royal College Advanced Certificate in Clinical Education covers all essential trainer prerequisites and provides learning opportunities specifically tailored to meet the needs of experienced trainers. The course focuses on enabling delegates to relate and constructively apply relevant educational theory to their ongoing clinical education practice.

The course covers all aspects of the GMC 2016 guideline competency framework and may be recognised as leading to the award of up to 10 credits towards further study on the University of Dundee's Certificate/Diploma/Master of Medical Education (MMEd) programme.

The programme covers:

  • Teachers and Teaching: Principles and practice
  • Learners and Learning: Principles and practice
  • Applying education theory in practice (including learning outcomes)
  • Delivery approaches
  • Current trends in feedback in medical education
  • Introduction to educational supervision
  • Introduction to assessment
  • Learning and teaching professionalism

Format of the course:
To provide necessary flexibility to potential participants, the College has restructured the course content to enable remote delivery and participation. It will, however, retain interactive small-group elements that enhance the quality of the learning experience.

The course has two live elements: a 1-hour introductory session and a 3-hour interactive session. In addition, participants will be required to complete 8 hours of individual activity and online learning before the final session. For award of the Advanced Certificate, participants are also required to submit a post-course reflective essay which meets the requirements of written work at level 11 of the SCQF. Full details of the new course format and requirements for award of the Certificate are provided in the attached programme.

Dates and times:

Tuesday 21 March, 14.00-15.00: Live introductory session.
