Overview

18:00 - 19:00 GMT

The NICE guidelines on the management of third molars were first published in 2000.  Since then, there have been numerous advances in research, technology and legal challenges.

Over the last 20 years, both positive and negative effects that the NICE guidelines have had on the oral health of the population who have third molars have been identified.   A working group for the FDS published refreshed and updated guidance on Third Molar Management in 2020.

Aims of the webinar:

  • To inform the audience about why an update of the third molar guidelines was required
  • To provide attendees with an overview of the current research, advances in technology and medical legal challenges which influenced this decision

Intended learning outcomes:

At the end of the session delegates will:

  • Be aware of the changes in research and technology relating to third molars since 2000
  • Have an understanding of the main points of the updated guidance on third molars published in 2020
  • Be able to identify the various options in the treatment of third molars
  • Appreciate how to communicate these options effectively to patients and guide them in deciding which management option would be best for them at that point in time
